For more than half a century, HB Farmer Foundation (HBFF)’s has been the mainstay of the deep foundation industry, serving as a valued trade partner for many of the industry’s leading general contractors. From its deep roots in the Texas DOT drilled shaft market, HBFF has evolved into a full-service deep foundations contractor able to offer expertise, design, and installation services for a wide variety of deep foundations.
what we do
HBBF’s solutions offer unparalleled support and load-bearing capacity. Our deep foundation designs are meticulously crafted to withstand challenging soil conditions, geological factors, and environmental forces. By choosing HBFF, you’re making a wise investment in the longevity and durability of your structures.
Also known as drilled piers or bored piles, HBFF’s drilled shaft method involves excavating cylindrical holes into the ground and then reinforcing them with concrete and/or steel. Drilled shafts provide structural support by transferring loads from the superstructure to deeper, more stable layers of soil or rock, making them suitable for a wide range of construction projects such as high-rise buildings, bridges, and industrial structures. Our services include design, installation, and quality control to ensure the integrity and load-bearing capacity of the foundation.
Augercast piles, also known as auger cast-in-place (ACIP) piles or continuous flight auger (CFA) piles, are a type of deep foundation system used to support structures and transfer loads to deeper, more stable soil layers or rock. Our installation method for installation utilizes hollow stem, continuous flight augers that facilitate drilling and concreting in a single pass, dramatically improving production levels. With CFA, drilling operations are continuous and efficient, saving precious time while eliminating the need for certain stabilization measures required by other installation techniques.
Micropiles, also known as mini-piles or pin piles, are slender, deep foundation elements that are typically constructed using high-strength steel reinforcement and grout. They are designed to provide structural support by transferring loads from the superstructure to deeper, more competent layers of soil or rock. Micropiles have a relatively small diameter ranging from 100mm to 300mm (4 to 12 inches) and can be installed in limited access areas or where space is restricted or environmental concerns exist. HBFF drills the micropiles into the ground using specialized equipment, which allows for precise installation.
Helical pilings, also known as helical piles or screw piles, are a type of deep foundation system that utilize helical-shaped steel plates or helices to provide structural support. HBFF installs helical pilings by rotating them into the ground using hydraulic equipment. The helical plates act as a screw, effectively “screwing” the pile into the soil. This installation method minimizes soil disturbance and requires less equipment compared to other deep foundation techniques.
Driven piling are steel or concrete deep foundation elements that are advanced into the ground by impact or vibratory hammers. Driven piling is commonly used in various soil and ground conditions to provide structural support and transfer loads to more stable soil layers. There are several types of driven piling, including steel piles, sheet piles, and concrete piles, each with its own characteristics and applications. The choice between steel, sheet, or concrete piles depends on factors such as soil conditions, design requirements, construction constraints, and project specifications. Our HBFF engineers provide guidance in selecting the appropriate driven piling method based on the project’s needs and site conditions.
